Facebook Again Cuts Price of Oculus Rift VR Headset

If there's a magical price for selling game consoles, it's somewhere south of $400. "So we're very excited to announce that". On Monday, July 10th, 2017 Oculus is reducing the prices of the Rift headset and Touch controllers and fixed it to the $399.

Included in the box, you have everything you need to get started.

There is quite a bit of speculation for the price-drop of the Oculus Rift.

Price always pays a big part in a device's success and if VR headsets are expensive to begin with and also require expensive computers to work with, their success could be limited on financial constraints alone. It is temporarily slashing the prices of the hardware.

In March 2016, the Oculus Rift went on sale for $600, while the Vive launched in April for $800.

The Oculus Rift + Oculus Touch Controller are on Amazon right now as a bundle. While the Rift was back-ordered for months as early adopters snapped up initial pre-orders past year, anecdotal reports suggest retail interest has waned in recent months.

For Oculus, the price drop follows additional cuts on its flagship headset during the past year. The Sega Saturn, on the other hand, dropped to $199 just a year after launching at $399. Rubin himself said the sale was meant to "test a mass-market price".

While you will find a similar discount for the bundle at Amazon and other retailers, Best Buy seems to be one of the few places that are also throwing in a free game to further sweeten the pot. Oculus is appealing the ruling and wants a new trial. We don't really talk about the profitability on a per-unit basis.

At this point, there are more than 500 titles available on Rift. Today's announcement includes a tease for the fall's Oculus Connect 4 conference, which would be the odds-on favorite venue for a Rift 2 debut. Will this be enough to get you to invest in the hardware?
