He got locked in that room but managed to slip a note to a cash-station customer: "Please help".
Under capitalism, money imprisons us all, but for one man in Corpus Christi, Texas, this arrangement transcended mere metaphor recently.
"Sure enough, we (could) hear a little voice coming from the machine". One read, "Please help". I'm stuck in here, and I don't have my phone.
Banking on some good luck, he tried to get the attention of customers using the ATM by passing "help me" notes through the receipt slot of the machine.
The note asked someone to call the contractor's boss and gave a phone number, KZTV said.
Police often responded to unusual calls, but this situation was one for the record books.
Some people thought it was a joke, but thankfully, someone finally called police. Little did they know there was actually someone stuck inside the room where the machine was. "It's got to be a joke", Olden said.
In total, the contractor was stuck for two house before his boss arrived, although officers had to resort to kicking the man down to get him free.
"It was just insane", senior officer Richard Olden told KZTV.
"Everyone is OK, but you will never see this in your life, that somebody was stuck in the ATM", Olden said.
