Microsoft to Release 'Project Scorpio' Edition of Xbox One X

Posted August 19, 2017

Crackdown 3 was previously scheduled to launch the same day that Microsoft's new console, Xbox One X, hits stores. Apparently, the Project Scorpio name isn't as dead as we thought! There's a few other minor cosmetic differences too, like the controller has all black buttons and the console has a slightly different woven texture than the vanilla Xbox One X.

This special Xbox One X is likely a limited-run console similar to the Day One Edition that Microsoft released for the Xbox One. Beyond those changes, though, this seems to be more or less the same Xbox One X we've already been introduced to. Based on the pics, it looks like the major differentiation between this edition and a normal model is the inclusion of "Project Scorpio" branding on the console and controller. The console itself is tattooed with the same marking, and it appears to have a textured, mesh-y finish that's unlike the matte plastic casing of the standard Xbox One X. Of course, as with all leaks, take it with a grain of salt. We are not able to confirm this as the does not list the Xbox One X 1TB Day One Edition anymore.

Microsoft's Gamescom live stream will begin on Sunday at 9:00pm CEST or 12:00pm PDT on the main Xbox Mixer channel. However, hopefully we will get a better look at the number of developers planning to support this new console.

It's rumored pre-orders will open following the event.
