Vardy hit 24 goals during the 2015/16 season to fire Leicester to the Premier League title, and he has also become an England global, with six goals in 17 caps to his name.

And it put defending champions Chelsea on the path to victory over the previous season's Premier League winners.

"Alvaro, Alvaro. He comes from Madrid, he hates the f****** Y***" sang Chelsea supporters at the King Power Stadium. "But N'Golo is a really good player".

But the hosts gave themselves a great hope getting something meaningful in the encounter when Chelsea goalie Thibaut Courtois brought down Jamie Vardy in the 60th minutes in which the referee blew a penalty.

Pedro was delighted with Chelsea's victory over Leicester City.

Chelsea continued to create problems for Leicester but lacked the final touch and Leicester nearly made them pay when Islam Slimani's shot was parried away by Thibaut Courtois in the 40th minute.

"It is a good day for the team and for Alvaro", said Conte in his post-match press conference. 'Now we are trying to involve new players with the older players and this is a process.

Conte, who is targeting back-to-back Premier League titles, also spoke of the importance of integrating new arrivals into the squad.

Conte threw on fit-again Hazard and gave a debut cameo to Davide Zappacosta, who nearly fired home a third from a tight angle before Willian wasted a wonderful opportunity to get on the scoresheet late on. The team are playing very well.

"I am good but the most important thing is we are not in the first places and we look forward to moving ahead in the table".

"We were in total control of the game and conceded only after one counter attack".
