"Alcon and Denis [Villeneuve, the director] made an wonderful movie".

Between Thursday's previews and Friday's screenings, the film made $12.7 and by Saturday revenue had dropped 11 percent to $11.4 million.

The film will still hope to accumulate a fair taking from across all global markets, so perhaps it's too soon to call this a flop, but it does show there was perhaps a little too much faith shown in the sequel to a film a lot of people might have fibbed about ever having seen. This feature-length animated film made its entry to the fourth place at the box office with $ 8.9 million.

Blade Runner 2049 received rave reviews from critics with Flickreel even awarding it a five star rating.

The long-awaited sequel to Ridley Scott's neo-noir and cyberpunk classic "Blade Runner" hit theaters over the weekend to the great anticipation of fans of the 1982 original.

"I'm disappointed", said Jeff Goldstein, president of domestic distribution for Warner Bros., which released the independently produced movie in the United States and Canada.

What happened? Well, while the audience response was strong, moviegoers who bought 2049 tickets tended to skew older, and the film also had an underwhelming turnout outside of major domestic markets.

To further narrow things down, we included only one movie per franchise. "Where we did do business was in the major markets". Reviews have been mixed, earning the film a 46 per cent score on Rotten Tomatoes. Directed by Hany Abu-Assad, the United States dollars 35 million film tells the tale of two strangers who are stranded in the wilderness after surviving a plane crash.

Fox's opening of survival drama "The Mountain Between Us", starring Idris Elba and Kate Winslet, was the weekend's runner-up, coming in slightly below projections with a moderate $10.6 million at 3,088 venues. Based on the Hasbro toys and television series, the movie's voice cast includes Emily Blunt, Kristin Chenoweth, Uzo Aduba and singer Sia.
