Mandatory evacuations are under way in Bel Air as the brush fire erupted near the Getty Center and climbed up the hillside.

A 1,000-acre fire blazed through the Angeles National Forest Tuesday, Dec.5, trapping several people in Sylmar, and forcing mandatory evacuations, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Shortly before 7 a.m., the California Highway Patrol closed the entire 405 Freeway between the Ventura (101) Freeway and the Santa Monica (10) Freeway, along with on-ramps and off-ramps and freeway transition roads in the affected area.

Hundreds of USA firefighters were battling to save homes Tuesday as a dynamic brush fire driven by strong winds exploded to at least 4,000 acres in hours in Southern California.

Kim Kardashian and Chrissy Teigen, who both have homes in Los Angeles, took to Twitter to discuss the fires.

The winds might die down during sunlight Wednesday, but they're expected to pick up in the evening and Thursday - perhaps as gusty as 50 miles per hour, posing a risk of further spread. It remained unclear whether any structures had been damaged or destroyed in the fire.

The blaze broke out at 3:42 a.m. Tuesday in the area of Gold Creek and Little Tujunga roads, the Los Angeles County Fire Department reported.

"We don't have a good feel on which direction this fire is heading", Stewart said. Kim said, "I pray everyone in Los Angeles is safe from these fires and THANK YOU to all of the fire fighters working so hard to keep everyone safe!"

The multiple wildfires in Southern California were spreading so fast in part due to what officials called the strongest Santa Ana winds of the season. The fire jumped the 210 Freeway and burned in Shadow Hills to the south, where residents scrambled to evacuate hundreds of horses, alpacas and other animals.

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti said they're trying to "stop this fire before it becomes something bigger" like the Bel Air fire of 1961.
