Boucher charged with federal offense in Paul attack

"Assaulting a member of Congress is an offense we take very seriously", Minkler noted in a statement.

The dispute has been a longstanding difference between the two, who have been neighbors for 17 years, Mr. Baker said. Rand Paul, R-Ky., speaks to supporters in Hebron, Ky.

The man accused of assaulting Kentucky Sen. Paul and Boucher are longtime neighbors in Bowling Green.

Officials said that Boucher "had enough" and tackled Paul after he witnessed the senator stack brush onto a pile near his property. "Those who choose to commit such an act will be held accountable".

Boucher then ran onto Paul's property and tackled him, fracturing six of the senator's ribs. As a result of this assault, the victim suffered multiple fractured ribs and subsequently contracted and required medical attention for pneumonia. Rand Paul outside his Kentucky home plans to pleads guilty to a felony charge of assaulting a member of Congress, his lawyer said Friday.

As part of the plea agreement, the defense will acknowledge that Boucher was responsible for attacking Paul.

In early November, Paul tweeted a Washington Examiner story that appeared to debunk the landscaping disputes excuse, without any additional comment.

Boucher had previously pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor assault charge in November and had been ordered to stay 1,000 feet away from Paul and his family.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Bradley Shepard for the Southern District of IN is prosecuting the case as a Special Attorney to the U.S. Attorney General.

Boucher could face up to 10 years of prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
