Devin Nunes and the big Carter Page contradiction

Former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page on Tuesday did an interview with ABC's George Stephanopoulos in which he admitted to handing documents to a Russian spy - but defended himself by saying it wasn't as bad as it looks. He worked for seven years as an investment banker for Merril Lynch - three of them in their Moscow office. "Anyone who had any connection or had ever done any work positive or otherwise in Russian Federation was constantly sort of the number one target for attacks". Page, however, insisted that it was a completely innocent transaction.

Page also built a resume as a foreign policy expert and his profile says he "is a frequent writer and lecturer on energy sector development in emerging markets".

Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) encouraged Page's willingness to have the court transcripts released on "The Ingraham Angle" and urged the court to acquiesce with The Times' request. He penned articles for the Global Policy Journal and earned a Ph.D. from SOAS University of London in 2012. If the Federal Bureau of Investigation did get a warrant to spy on Trump's team, then Page must have been part of Trump's team, contrary to earlier denials.

While President Trump and his supporters have tried to downplay Page's role with the campaign, in March 2016, Trump referred to Page as a member of his national security advisory council during an interview with The Washington Post editorial board.

Page said he was one of many people brought in from around the world for the G-20 Summit. The U.S. later charged Podobny with working as a Russian intelligence agent under diplomatic cover.

Page didn't deny any of the facts, but tried to downplay his Russian Federation connections.

"The Nunes memo doesn't say what statute did they cite as a potential violation".

The four-page memo accuses senior DOJ officials of improperly using information from the so-called Steele dossier - which originated as an opposition research document during the 2016 presidential race - to obtain surveillance warrants on Page.

Democratic leaders claim that the Nunes memo gets the facts wrong and that the court was informed that there were political motivations behind the dossier, though they didn't specifically mention the Democrats or Hillary Clinton's campaign.

Following the release of the Nunes memo - the namesake of its drafter Rep. Devin Nunes (R-California) - Page has been in the hot seat, forced to defend his alleged relations with Russian Federation. The committee voted Monday to release the rebuttal, which is now awaiting White House approval.
