Storm brings freezing rain and snow to US Northeast

27 Storm Track meteorologist Branden Borremans said highs should be around 20 Thursday through Sunday, with overnight lows mostly in the single digits.

The Detroit and Chicago metropolitan areas were forecast to receive as much as nine inches (23 centimeters) of snow, with more than one inch per hour falling in Detroit on Friday morning.

Snow has started to fall in Great Falls and will continue throughout the afternoon and evening. Areas to the south could see lesser amounts of snow, ranging between 2-6 inches of snow. The National Weather Service has set a winter storm watch to begin Thursday evening and lasting through the day Friday.

That National Weather Service also forecasted that after its winter storm warning expired Friday night, another round of snow was expected Friday into mid-morning Saturday and early Sunday morning into late Sunday morning.

A graphic from the National Weather Service shows that Newtown is within a large area covered by a Winter Weather Advisory, while partial counties in NY are covered by a Winter Storm Warning, for Wednesday, February 7. In Chicago, Mayor Rahm Emanuel said the city was gearing up for several more rounds of snow through the weekend.

Heading into the weekend the biggest concern for SW Montana will be the bitter cold temperatures especially during the morning as wind chills will likely dip below zero Saturday.

Just as a powerful storm finally passes through the Midwest, yet another is on its way to dump even more snow in that region as well as the Northeast. The northern edge of heavy snow through 10 a.m. could come up to the Grand Rapids, Lansing and Flint areas.

Buffalo, Syracuse and Rochester could see from 3 to 6 inches, according to AccuWeather.com, and enough snow will fall around Albany, Burlington and Montreal to create hazardous driving conditions.
