AMG GT Coupe - Mercedes' four-door supercar

AMG GT Coupe - Mercedes' four-door supercar

Every model comes packed with a high specification as standard. The core idea behind developing a 4-door coupe is to offer practicality and performance at the same time.

The sedan's three models pack between 429-630 horsepower and 384-627 pound-feet of torque.

Mercedes said the top model should hit 60 miles per hour in 3.1 seconds, beating Porsche's fastest four-door coupe by a tenth of a second.

On the outside, the new C43 shares its redesigned LED head- and taillamps with the just-refreshed 2019 Mercedes-Benz C-class sedan, while ditching the outgoing model's glitzy grille inset in favor of a simple bisected "twin-blade" treatment, à la the Mercedes-AMG C63. It tops out 194 miles per hour. If you need a back seat, though, you're out of luck. And, as you'd expect, everything about it is a bit hardcore.

Trim on the inside is a light brown high-gloss sen, which is an Asian hardwood, and there's Nappa leather for the seats, front and rear center armrests, instrument panel, door center panels and map pockets on the driver and front passenger backrests. Further complicating things, the Four-Door Coupe had to maintain the rigid body structure that let the original grand tourer handle so well, whether on street or track.

The 180 d uses a 1.5-liter diesel engine, which produces 116 hp and 260 Nm of torque. The rear axle also adds a reinforced mount to reduce noise, vibration and harshness, or NVH.

In all models, power is sent to all four wheels (4MATIC+) using an AMG SPEEDSHIFT 9-speed transmission. The vehicle gets a "drift mode" as standard on the "S" variant and is optional on all other variants. The 63 and 63 S also get an electronically controlled locking differential as standard gear.

A 577bhp V8-powered GT 63 capable of a 3.4 second launch to 62mph sits in the middle of the range, but the GT 63 S is going to be the model you want.

A pop-up spoiler adds downforce as necessary. That includes a Race mode. You'll also notice, that just like the Panamera and A7, the GT 4-Door coupe will make it easier to load all your stuff in with its versatile hatchback layout.

SE models feature twin seven-inch displays, including a central touchscreen and voice activation. And a touch button on the left side of the AMG Performance steering wheel lets the driver quickly shift the layout of instrumentation and navigation information. The latter offers additional AMG-specific information, such as a prompt for gear changes when the transmission is in manual mode.

Four doors on an AMG GT?

A range of three variants was announced, including an entry-level six-cylinder GT53 and two V8 versions, called the GT63 and GT63S.

Mercedes-AMG has finally revealed the new GT 4-Door Coupe at the Geneva Motor Show, marketed as the AMG GT's four door sibling. The GT 53 is due by mid-2019.
