Gabe Newell Says "Valve's Going to Start Shipping Games Again"

Gabe Newell Says

That's according to a number of sources, including video games personality Geoff Keighley on Twitter (below) and PCGamer, who were at a briefing about upcoming DOTA 2 card game Artifact at Valve's offices in Bellevue, Washington.

Artifact, a Dota 2 card game, was announced by Valve nearly a year ago through an announcement and short trailer at The International 7. The game became memetic immediately mainly for the crowd-spanning groan of disappointment that came after the reveal, but we have Valve making games again.

Is this a good news?

In doing so, Newell said that "future games will combine the development of software alongside hardware, similar to how Nintendo designs hardware systems to bring new gameplay ideas to life". But how does it compare to other Steam titles across the platform's history? Pretty simple, actually. Valve itself is a behemoth of a company.

After all, Valve tends to take a long time on their game making even if they're enthusiastic about their projects, which clearly isn't now the case.

The game is only in closed beta but is expected to released to the public by the end of this year, with an Artifact tournament following in 2019. A lot of the company's most recent endeavors have been centered around the HTC Vive. The founder stated Valve was doing triple-A single-player titles back in 2015, during a Reddit AMA with fans, and the engine Source 2 was announced on the same year at GDC. Now that Valve can do the same, they will also release more games in the future. Valve would be better off letting Traveller's Tales and Lego make another "Portal" game instead! As with the Big N, they not only were planning the next iconic The Legend of Zelda game, they were also planning new controllers to celebrate those beloved franchise.

Perhaps it'll be different when these titles finally release, but considering the hype that already circulates around "Half Life 3", it'll be very hard for this game to live up to expectations if it ever does reach store shelves.
