Indian police have arrested a member of a Hindu extremist group for his alleged involvement in the murder of a left-wing journalist, Gauri Lankesh.

This content is restricted to site members. It is said that he has connection with Hindu fringe groups and that he bore resemblance to the person caught on the CCTV, making trips around Gauri Lankesh's house. We have submitted some evidence gained during investigation in a sealed envelope to the court, which is why the court extended the date of Naveen Kumar's custody with the police.

The SIT is now questioning a man with links to gunrunners in Bijapur, who allegedly provided the weapon for the killing.

He was earlier taken into custody on March 2nd and after interrogation. The bullet that killed Gauri was manufactured in 2009, said police without divulging further information."At this moment, all we can say is Naveen knew about Gauri's killing before September 5, 2017". She was the editor of the Gauri Lankesh Patrike, a tabloid known for "anti-establishment" views. "A SIT has been formed to nab them", he said. He was also at the Sanstha headquarters in Goa for several days past year for a conference. The brazen attack on Lankesh was likened to the assassinations of rationalist thinkers-activists Narendra Dabholkar on 20 August 2013 in Pune, Communist Party of India (CPI) leader Govind Pansare on 16 February 2015 in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, and M.M. Kalburgi on 30 August 2015 in Dharwad, Karnataka. Naveen's family has kept up that he is pure and not the slightest bit associated with the case. "Naveen also had a few links with people in Belagavi who are alleged to be arms dealers and it has led us to bring him there", a police source said.
