Trump says goodbye to 'globalist' economic adviser Gary Cohn

President Donald Trump's team played down talk of a trade war Wednesday as it fought to limit a financial market sell-off, promising a quick decision on contentious tariffs that prompted a popular economic advisor to the president to quit.

President Trump's departing economic adviser "may be a globalist", but the commander-in-chief doesn't hold it against him. "He may be a globalist, but I still like him". He is seriously a globalist.

The report said that the administration is already deliberating over the logistics and location of the meeting, with a senior State Department diplomat noting that the most obvious venue is the Peace House, a conference building in the Demilitarized Zone between North and South Korea. The term is often used as a derogatory reference by opponents of free trade and international-leaning policies.

That usage of globalist has overlapped on the "alt-right" with anti-Semitic connotations.

"I have a feeling you'll be back".

"We can think of no one who can fill this seat that will give Wall Street as much comfort as Cohn - particularly with the protectionists on the rise and tariffs top of the agenda".

Citing two persons who were briefed on the discussions, The Seattle Times reported on Saturday that Liddell, who is the White House director of strategic initiatives, is seen as a front-runner to replace Cohn as director of the National Economic Council.

Cohn announced his resignation on Tuesday, after an unsuccessful bid to prevent the President's promised tariffs on foreign metals.

Trump signed a proclamation on Thursday to impose a 25 percent tariff on imported steel and a 10 percent tariff on imported aluminum.

"We're going to have sensible relations with our allies", he told CNBC, claiming that Mr Trump's policy was well "thought through".
