England fans arrested in Amsterdam

Dutch police said they had arrested 25 supporters who were drunk and had thrown beer bottles at officers, per BBC Sport.

Sky Sports reported that nearly 30 fans had been held behind bars overnight for drunken behavior in the Netherlands' capital as the Three Lions prepare to take on Ronald Koeman's Oranje side at the Amsterdam Arena.

Dutch television broadcasters TV5 reported on Friday that police in the capital are no longer enforcing the public alcohol ban in the city's red light district as it is becoming impossible to enforce due to the large number of England fans in the area. England won the match 1-0 thanks to a second-half strike from Jesse Lingard.

"We arrested 90 English people, mainly because they were disturbing the peace", an Amsterdam police spokesman is quoted by the Daily Mail as saying.

There were 5,253 fans in the away section at the Amsterdam Arena.

As relations between the two countries break down over the attempted murder of former Soviet-turned-British spy Sergei Skripal, the United Kingdom government has urged England supporters to think twice about heading to Russia for fear of Russian ultras violently attacking them.

"But I would strongly urge them to behave in the right way and respect our opponents and the country they're in".

"England fans have worked hard over the last decade or so to improve their reputation and disorder has become a rarity", he explained.

Thousands of English fans are in Amsterdam today ahead of their country's friendly against Holland later.

The trouble in Amsterdam comes a year after unsavoury scenes marred England's friendly against Germany in Dortmund.

The FA will review those caught up in trouble in Amsterdam to see if ESTC members were involved and punish them accordingly. There was a riot van at the door pulling fans out of the pub.
