Toyota Puts The Spotlight On The 2019 RAV4 With Promo Videos

Toyota introduced its all-new, fifth-generation 2019 RAV4 SUV at the New York International Auto Show on Wednesday, March 28.

As for how the new RAV4 looks, it's very much like the FT-AC concept that's been seen in the past and many guessed would form the basis for a new RAV4.

The new hatch, which we'd say is a good bet to outsell its predecessor, gets more dynamic styling that ties neatly in with what Toyota has recently done with its new Camry and Avalon models.

Large overfenders, bold hexagonal grille with different patterns, roof rails, two-tone colour scheme and gloss black treatment are applied to different variants available - XSE, Limited and Adventure. There are also distinct styling differences between the models, with the luxurious Limited, off-road Adventure, and Hybrid all sporting unique faces and trim.

A new 2.5 litre petrol hybrid will be available RAV4 when it arrives in the United Kingdom in 2019, and you'll also be able to opt for Toyota's new 2.0 litre petrol too and, we're assuming, Toyota's new CVT gearbox, at least as an option. Other updates include new upholstery, and revised interiors along with small add-ons like - USB ports, wireless phone chargers, and an optional 800-watt JBL sound system.

Compared to its key competitors, the new RAV4 is the same width as the Honda CR-V at 1,855mm.

The hybrid version of the RAV4 will have a 2.5-litre petrol engine mated to the usual Toyota electric setup - only this time the vehicle features a second electric motor powering the rear wheels, allowing the hybrid version to offer four-wheel drive for the first time. It can send up to 50 percent of the available torque to the rear axle and even distribute it to the left and right rear wheel to improve handling. Also, the same powertrain is used for the second generation hybrid system as well as for the continuously variable transmission.

Toyota alleges the new RAV4 will boast best-in-class fuel economy and improved driving dynamics.

Non-hybrid grades of the new RAV4 are due in late 2018 in the US, while hybrids will go on sale in early 2019.

The Toyota RAV4 is the brand's best-selling model in the US these days, meaning the importance of this fourth-generation version can not be overstated.

On the safety front, the Toyota RAV4 comes with Toyota's Safety Sense, which includes features like forward collision warning with pedestrian detection and emergency braking, dynamic cruise control, lane departure warning with steering assist, and auto high beams.
