He says term limits are in place in Florida and elsewhere, including for the president, and he says they should be in place on members of the U.S. House and Senate.

Scott slashed environmental programs after taking office such as the land-buying program Florida Forever, as his administration focused on growth and development.

President Donald Trump has said Scott should run for the Senate seat.

In Scott's announcement Monday, he touted himself as a governor who has never "played by the political rules", a personal aspect he said will help fix Washington.

Myers said Scott's actions as governor have made him $46 million richer.

The 33-year-old was leaving Scott's office to work on his Senate campaign. A February Quinnipiac University poll found 49 percent of Florida voters approve of Scott, compared with 40 percent who disapprove.

In his last election in 2012, Nelson earned 55 percent of the vote, outperforming Democratic then-President Barack Obama in Florida.

"Three months ago, Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke appeared with Gov. Rick Scott in Tallahassee and declared Florida "off the table" for oil drilling near the state's coastline".

"Wolf, there are so many differences between the two of us you can go to the beach in Florida and there are no oil rigs out there", Nelson said.

"If you travel this country everybody around the country says you know we need term limits".

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee unleashed a pair of Facebook ads slamming Scott and highlighting the $1.7 billion fine paid by HCA, the hospital company he led, for Medicare fraud in the 1990s.

Scott's announcement was widely expected and Democrats have already mobilized against his campaign.

Scott issued a release describing Bustamante as "terrific and selfless" and said, "Her personality filled rooms and hearts". Scott asked. "This state had lost over 800,000 jobs in four years". "Floridians won't forget the damage Rick Scott's self-serving politics have done these last seven years, no matter how he tries to change his spots and obscure his record".
