Google Maps changes include AR directions, more

Google Maps relieve the workload of its users in selecting a restaurant, according to the new update to Google Maps. The idea is to make it easier to decide on places to visit as a group. The For You tab is created to surface information about new places that open up, or a "surprise pop-up from your favourite chef" and more using information from local experts, Google's algorithms, and trusted publishers.

The "For You" section is accompanied by a new "Match Score" feature that custom-tailor restaurant recommendations based on users' personal preferences.

Small businesses will also be getting access to tools on Google Maps, making them more accessible to customer calls or to edit operating hours on the fly.

"You can also tell us about your food and drink preferences", she said, "so we'll know if you enjoy certain types of cuisines or restaurant types, like family friendly spots or places with live music". They will also be able to get help with directions from a nifty fox.

The new "For you" tab is the best way to stay on top of the latest and greatest happening in the areas you're into.

Instead of relying on an unclear blue dot while walking around a cluttered city, Google suggests this camera-fueled augmented reality interface may one day save the day. This way it would be harder to misinterpret the directions the app is giving users because every turn they make will be guided by AR navigation signs and symbols.

There's also a new shortlist feature coming to allow users the ability to offer up multiple locations with their friends. VPS will help Maps to figure out where you are, what direction you're now pointed in and then help you get where you need to go.

Other Maps features showcased at I/O will be coming to the iOS and Android versions of Maps later this summer. A new Match Score feature combines the info Google's collected about business along with your ratings of similar businesses to produce more targeted recommendations. A user long-presses on any place on Maps to add it to the list, and then they can share it on any platform and let friends add places to the list.
