Pawan Kalyan About Godavari Boat Tragedy

According to the latest report, till now, 10 people have been rescued, with teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) being deployed at the site of the mishap.

Today, divers were able to rescue some of the bodies after the motor launch was found struck in the sand at a depth of 60 feet near Varapalli tribal village.

Speaking to TNM, a local CPI (M) leader, Venkat Rao said, "It is really unfortunate that among the passengers who drowned, there are people who came to meet revenue authorities at Indukurupeta regarding rehabilitation matters". "Our party followers too should support the people when such incidents take place" said Pawan Kalyan.

East Godavari District Collector Kartikeya Misra said that the passengers asked the boat driver and the owner of the boat, who was also onboard, to take it ashore when it started raining.

A few days back a tourist boat carrying 100 passengers had caught fire but the driver managed to reach to safety before the fire spread.

The sources say that the cause of the mishap was probably strong winds in the area.

Proper record-keeping is rare on the many ferries that work the Godavari, making it hard to know how many people were on the boat.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu visited the scene to supervise rescue operations and told reporters that 10 more bodies were yet to be pulled out, reported IANS. Condolences to the bereaved families.

Naidu blamed the private boat operator for the tragedy, saying the ferry was packed with men, cement bags and motorbikes. "I pray for the safety of those missing", he tweeted.
