‘Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’ Confirmed to Take Place in Ancient Greece

‘Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’ Confirmed to Take Place in Ancient Greece

The most recent entry in the franchise was Assassin's Creed Origins, released a year ago, which dialed the events of the game all the way back to Egypt during the Ptolemaic period (49-47 BC). But if confirms both the title, and basically confirms the ancient Greek setting. The latest entry, Assassin's Creed Origins, launched for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in 2017.

After Kotaku reported that the next Assassin's Creed game would be called Assassin's Creed Odyssey and was set in Ancient Greece, Ubisoft has now officially announced it Thursday. Given how often Assassin's Creed games get leaked before their official reveal, I'm putting my money on this report being legit. The leak originally came from upcoming Assassin's Creed merchandise, which was spotted by French site, JeuxVideoLive. Now, having taken 2017 off as well, Ubisoft is back this year with Assassin's Creed Odyssey. They also claim that players will be able to choose male or female characters. Whether the game will factor in the events of that poem remains to be seen.

Ubisoft would appear to have been spurred into revealing the existence of Assassin's Creed Odyssey by the same premature listing on Walmart Canada's website that revealed the existence of Bethesda's Rage 2. An anonymous 4Chan user posted a number of alleged details about the game, which are summarised in this Reddit post.

As with all rumors, take this with the proverbial grain of salt. The game will apparently release this fiscal year.
