Celebrated annually on the first Friday in June, the day of the pastry was established in 1938 to honor The Salvation Army Donut Lassies, women who served the treats to soldiers during World War I.

Dunkin' Donuts: Customers can get a free classic donut of their choice (while supplies last) with the purchase of any beverage.

Locations around Williamsburg will celebrate National Doughnut Day with free pastries. Limit is one per customer, and no purchase is necessary.

Krispy Kreme Australia's Head of Marketing and e-Commerce Russell Schulman described National Doughnut Day as "the most wonderful day of the year". Waterbury and Stamford's Salvation Army locations will deliver donuts to fire fighters and police officers during the day.

Edible Arrangements: The chain has launched new Edible Donuts, which are actually made with apples, and you can get a free one on Friday. It's basically a Whopper burger with a hole cut in the middle, but the fast food chain is making up for the missing piece by giving a free mini slider with the purchase. Their deals include six for $5 and a dozen doughnuts for $8.50. The retailer expects to give away 1.2 million doughnuts nationwide by the end of the day.

Walmart: If you're out shopping at Walmart, you can get a free glazed doughnut while you're there. It is good for "any doughnut with a hole".

The offer is available all day on Friday at participating restaurants.

Egypt Star Bakery is also a great place to stop for donuts, and conveniently has three Lehigh Valley locations.
