Bollywood star Arbaaz Khan summoned in IPL betting case

Bollywood actor Arbaaz Khan has been summoned by the Thane police in connection with the IPL betting case about a week after the Indian Premier League 2018 pulled down its curtains.

Police further revealed Jalan had organised a bookie meeting in Dubai.

Khan, who has to appear for questioning on Saturday, was summoned days after the arrest of bookie Sonu Jalan, alias Sonu Batla, who allegedly used to run a betting ring in India and overseas.

An officer said Jalan, in his statement, has mentioned several prominent names who bet huge amounts on certain IPL teams and players. Police found their pictures together.

Subsequently, the Mumbai crime branch arrested actor Dara Singh's son Vindoo and then BCCI president Narayanswami Srinivasan's son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan on charges of conspiracy, cheating and betting in the IPL.

The cops have asked Arbaaz, who is better known to be the brother of superstar Salman Khan to make be present before the Thane Anti Extortion Cell on Saturday. The alleged kingpin of the betting scandal turned out to be a bookie named Sonu Jalan/Malad, with his connection with Dawood Ibrahim's D-Company also becoming a matter of investigation.

Jalan has also told interrogators about 2 matches being fixed by him with the help of his other associates, said the Times Now report. He was operating the betting racket from Mumbai and was arrested on Tuesday.

Arbaaz's father, Salim Khan, spoke to Times Now and said that the actor is currently now in town.

It is beleived that Arbaaz Khan had placed bets through Sonu Jalan in the entire IPL season and the bookie was also trying to extort money from him.
