Apple Not Expected to Unveil New MacBooks, iPads, Apple Watch at WWDC

But Apple's other platforms - the Mac, Apple Watch and Apple TV - have become less attractive to developers, and Apple has the opportunity to turn that around. New additions could include a way to track and set limits for time spent on certain apps. We probably won't see new MacBooks, a new iPad Pro, or the iPhone 11 on stage during the event, but Apple will use Monday's keynote to showcase new software its got planned for 2018. In January, two major shareholders wrote a letter to Apple asking the company to add more parental controls and to study the impact of excessive iPhone usage on mental health.

Other features that might make into iOS 12 include new Animojis and more expansive NFC capabilities that might enable iPhone owners to use their devices as virtual transit cards and hotel keys. There also might be some news about Apple's streaming service.

It's a technology that is used by mobile game Pokemon Go.

Siri Update will be competitive with Google's assistant, and Amazon's Alexa.

While 2017's event saw the introduction of many new products, including smart speaker HomePod and a new iPad Pro, this year's presentation is expected to return the focus to operating systems. Apple recently poached top Google AI executive John Giannandrea, after criticism about slow feature development compared to the competition. It may be too soon for any big changes, but Apple could preview the Siri improvements it hopes to make. This would address developer apathy toward the Mac App Store, which hasn't been redesigned in several years.

In 2016, Apple CEO Tim Cook said the company is on AR in the long run, meaning that Apple has a lot of focus in developing augmented reality far better than its rivals. But the Mac is still an important product for developers and users, and Apple will update the software again this year.

Let's start with the most obvious stuff first. If launched, users will be able to enter an app on their MacBook and pick up from where they left off in the same app on their iPhone.

Developers and students attending the event will have access to more than 1,000 Apple engineers, giving them the latest details about the various APIs available to them, whether for SiriKit, HomeKit or HealthKit, etc. Apple is in a unique position to toot its own horn.
