Joachim Low Announces His 23-Man Germany Squad; Leroy Sane Left Out

PFA Premier League Young Player of the Season Leroy Sane missed out on inclusion in Germany's 23-man squad for the World Cup to the surprise of nearly everyone.

Announcing his squad on Monday, Low said it was a "tight" call to leave Sane out as he favoured Julian Brandt of Bayer Leverkusen.

The winger was a surprise omission from Joachim Low's 23-man squad for the tournament in Russian Federation, having had an impressive season for Manchester City.

However, he is not the only unhappy player who has been left out this summer with a host of fellow Premier League stars being omitted by their countries.

He will, however, play no part for his country in Russian Federation this summer after being cut from Joachim Low's 27-man preliminary party.

The statistics speak for themselves as he finds himself ahead of picked Julian Brandt, Julian Draxler and Marco Reus in the squad. "Leroy has a huge talent", he said. He will be back again from September.

"There are certainly easier days in the life of a national team head coach than they day where I have to send four payers home", he added.

Sane wrote: "Thank you so much everyone for your encouraging messages yesterday and today".

"There are better days in the life of a national team coach, when you have to send four unbelievable players, who deserve to be at the World Cup, home".

In his place is Bayer Leverkusen's Julian Brandt, a player of the same age (22) who scored one fewer and assisted 12 fewer in the Bundesliga than Sane's 2017/18 Premier League total of 10 goals and 15 assists.

Germany plays its opening Group F match against Mexico on June 17.
