Nabil Fekir's proposed move to Liverpool collapses

"Olympique Lyonnais informs that the negotiations with Liverpool and Nabil Fekir for the transfer of the captain of OL have not succeeded and that Olympique Lyonnais has made a decision to put an end to this negotiation tonight at 20h".

France Football Association president Noel Le Graet had suggested the move was nearly completed - according to reports in France - before Lyon's announcement.

Hislop reckons the knee problem could delay any deal further, but reckons Fekir will still become a Liverpool player this summer.

"He was looking forward to it because the visit he had was positive".

Nevertheless, they have already made some impressive additions in time for next season, with Naby Keita and Fabinho joining the Reds from Leipzig and Monaco respectively.

While this whole transfer sage is going on, Fekir has been trying to concentrate on representing his country at the World Cup. Jurgen Klopp, in particular, will be delighted to have secured the signing of Fekir, should the transfer go through.

Fekir had a fine season, scoring 18 league goals as Lyon finished third to qualify for the Champions League playoffs.

And on Saturday evening Lyon announced the deal was off, claiming their captain will remain at the club next season.

The French outfit have not ruled out the possibility of Fekir moving to another European powerhouse though, provided that the price is right. The Brazilian superstar moved to Barcelona for a fee of €120m, which, in turn, allowed Liverpool to splash the cash on Fekir this summer.

Liverpool's medical staff flew out to Paris on Thursday, and Le Graet said they have examined the 24-year-old: "He had his medical visit at Clairefontaine".

Overall, Nabil Fekir is undoubtedly a world-class talent who can strengthen Liverpool's attacking department.
