Sarri agrees terms with Chelsea to succeed Conte

Reports suggest Chelsea will draft in Maurizio Sarri to fill the managerial void.

"Chelsea Football Club and Antonio Conte have parted company", a brief statement read.

Conte had reportedly been at odds with the club's management over their transfer policy and furthermore, few would have expected him to keep his job after the Blues finished in fifth position in the Premier League standings last season; outside the Champions League qualification places for the second time in three seasons.

The Premier League season starts in four weeks' time, leaving clubs much less time than usual to conclude their summer transfer business.

The club's 64-word announcement was eventually made on Friday (Saturday NZT), ending with: "We wish Antonio every success in his future career".

Zola scored 59 league goals for Chelsea across seven seasons between 1996 and 2003.

His intense training methods angered senior players and he alienated the board with disparaging treatment of Spanish striker Diego Costa and constant carping over the club's failure to replace top players with those of similar ability.

When asked about the prospect of the attacker moving to Real, Martinez said: 'He can play for any demanding team in the world'.

Under Sarri's tutelage, Dries Mertens has been transformed into one of the continent's most potent attacking threats, the Belgian scoring a whopping 56 goals in the last two seasons for the free-flowing Partenopei. "Great man, Great manager".

More images have emerged of former Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri at Stamford Bridge ahead of the announcement of his move to Chelsea.

However, Chelsea hijacked their proposed deal with the Evening Standard claiming a £57.4m fee has been agreed with Napoli and the midfielder is now believed to have flown-in to London to undergo his medical.

Sarri has also presented a list of players he would like to sign.

Former Spain manager Julen Lopetegui was appointed instead.

Conte delivered trophies in his two years at Chelsea but also brought controversy.
