At least 5 stabbed at NYC day care centre

Two other people, a man and a woman, were also stabbed just before 4 a.m. Friday.

A 1-month-old and a 3-day-old baby were stabbed in the stomach.

The victims were taken to local hospitals, and one of the children is in serious condition, but none of the injuries are expected to be life-threatening.

The suspect, identified as a 52-year-old woman, was found in the basement of the home with self-inflicted cuts on a wrist, according to the station.

The two adults were a co-worker at the facility and the father of one of the infants, the officer said. Another adult who was hurt is a woman who works at the centre.

It wasn't clear whether the day care center was licensed. The infants are in critical but stable condition at area hospitals.

A police spokesman said victims had "multiple stab wounds", adding they are looking into reports some of the victims are children.

Two knives were recovered at the scene, according to police.

Police have not yet determined a motive.
