Turkish police search forest, coastal city for Saudi journalist Khashoggi's remains

Turkish investigators have for a second time searched the Saudi consulate where Khashoggi disappeared, and also searched the consul's residence.

Washington Post late on Tuesday published passport scans of the suspects allegedly involved in the journalist's killing, while another report detailed close links between the suspects and the powerful crown prince accused of ordering the murder.

The Saudi government has repeatedly denied murdering Khashoggi.

Leading human rights and journalists' organisations have urged Turkey to ask the United Nations to launch an investigation into the disappearance and "possible extrajudicial execution" of Mr Khashoggi.

"And finally, the injustice he has caused by killing the journalist Jamal Khashoggi", it added.

It is not clear. They left the consulate early October 18 after searching the building and consular vehicles, a Reuters witness said.

His comments followed publication in pro-government Turkish media of allegations purporting to confirm that Khashoggi was not just murdered by Saudi agents in their consulate in Istanbul, but dismembered. Saudi officials have insisted Mr Khashoggi left unharmed, without providing any evidence of the claim.

It says reports on Mr Khashoggi's death are "completely false and baseless" and that it is "open to co-operation" to find out what happened.

Trump's remarks came after he was briefed on the investigation by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo who returned from a trip to Saudi Arabia and Turkey.

Investigators have also recovered "many samples" from their searches of the consulate and the consul's residence, the senior officials told Reuters, and will now attempt to analyse those for traces of the DNA of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

Kislakci claimed that the tapes reveal that after Khashoggi went into the Saudi embassy, he was given documents to sign.

How have other countries reacted?

"Government welcomes the ongoing diplomatic interaction between the Republic of Turkey and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as well as the investigation which seeks to get to the bottom of this matter".

However, several politicians have pulled out from next week's Future Investment Initiative in Riyadh - which has been nicknamed "Davos in the Desert" - including International Monetary Fund chief Christine Lagarde.

"At which point we can make decisions about how or if the United States should respond to the incident surrounding Mr Khashoggi", said the top American diplomat.

"It is risky, it is unsafe for Saudi Arabia, for the region", he said.

President Trump said on "Trish Regan Primetime" that it "would be bad" if Saudi Arabia's leadership had any knowledge of Khashoggi's disappearance. "But, either [Trump] doesn't know what he is doing or he has an absolutely convoluted notion of what allows America to lead the world", Biden told CBS News' Norah O'Donnell.
