Israel welcome restored USA sanctions on Iran

The comments on "Fox News Sunday" come a day before US sanctions on Iran's energy and shipping are due to snap back following President Donald Trump's decision to withdraw from the 2015 multilateral nuclear agreement.

The measures restore all the U.S. sanctions that had been lifted under the accord that gave Iran billions of dollars in sanctions relief in exchange for curbs on its nuclear program.

China, India, South Korea, Japan and Turkey - all top importers of Iranian oil - are among eight countries expected to be given temporary exemptions from the sanctions to ensure crude oil prices are not destabilized.

China says it regrets the USA decision to re-impose sanctions on Iran but will continue to uphold the nuclear deal Beijing agreed to as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.

Six months after Trump pulled out of an worldwide agreement on ending Tehran's nuclear program, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the ultimate U.S. goal was for Iran to make a "180-degree turn" and abandon its "revolutionary course".

Pompeo said more than 20 countries have already cut their oil imports from Iran, reducing purchases by more than 1 million barrels per day.

National Security Advisor John Bolton said the United States is not going to give permanent waivers to any country and the aim of the Trump administration is to drive the Iranian oil exports to zero. "The US - and not Iran - is isolated", Zarif said in a tweet.

He called on Iran's leaders to immediately give up support for terrorism, stop proliferating ballistic missiles, end destructive regional meddling and abandon their nuclear ambitions in order to escape the crushing sanctions.

However, US leader Donald Trump's personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani and John Bolton, the president's national security adviser, have both made public statements supporting the overthrowing of Iran's theocratic government. Iranian state television aired footage of air defence systems and anti-aircraft batteries in two-day military manoeuvres which got under way across a vast stretch of the country's north.

Asked if the United States had firm commitments from India and China to stop all oil purchases from Iran within six months, Pompeo replied: "Watch what we do". He spoke to a conference of economists, who he said were at the "forefront of the resistance" against the United States.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran can sell its oil today - and will continue selling if God wills".

He said Washington's re-imposition of the sanctions against Iran were in fact the declaration of an economic war on the Islamic Republic, emphasizing that the Iranians were not on the losing side. "The sanctions are truly coming", Netanyahu said.

However, analysts doubt this will lessen the impact of sanctions on Iran, given the importance of the USA to global trade.

A number of smaller industrial companies, with less exposure to the U.S., intended on continuing their lucrative trade with Iran.

"The shadow of the sanctions has already affected the economy in a disastrous way, people's purchasing power has plunged", said Ehsan Attar in his herbal remedy shop. "That's who really understand the importance and the impact of the effort that we're undertaking".

European countries which are still party to the accord created to curb Iran's nuclear activity say they will help businesses bypass the sanctions.
